An Explanation of Covenant's Logo
A good logo captures a group’s identity, graphically depicting its mission in a distinctive and memorable way. Covenant’s logo accomplishes these goals with simplicity and beauty, reminding us at a glance of who we are and where we are going.
The most obvious element of our logo is that it is in the shape of a church. This immediately distinguishes our purpose. Covenant is not merely a gathering of like-minded individuals or an association of friends but a part of the church of Jesus Christ: called by God and saved by grace to live as His distinct people (1 Peter 2:9-10).
The outline of the church contains three concentric layers, representing the fact that we are seeking to grow upward (toward God) and outward (toward others) in keeping with our Lord’s first and second greatest commandments (Matthew 22:34-40). It also reminds us that we do not worship a god of our own desire or imagination but the Triune God of the Bible who, being One God, yet exists in the three Persons of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 13:14).
The church rests upon an open Bible because God’s Word is the authoritative foundation of every element of our faith and practice. It reveals God to us and shows us how His grace affects every area of our lives (Psalm 119, 2 Timothy 3:10-4:8).
A cross tops the pinnacle of the building because Christ is the King and Head of His church (Matthew 16:18, Colossians 1:15-18). He is the main focus of our attention, the chief object of our desire, and the only source of our salvation (Acts 4:12). His blood has reconciled us to God, as represented by the crimson color of the logo (Colossians 1:19-20), and everything done by His people is done under His authority, by His grace, and for His glory.
Finally, the letters “C.P.C.” remind us of God’s covenant of grace to us and our covenant of commitment to one another, of our Presbyterian form of church government by elders, and of the fact that we are a church of Jesus Christ unashamed to be called by His Name.
May our logo remind us of the One who has saved us for His glory so that we might grow upward and outward through His Word!
