small groups

The Small Group ministry at Covenant is an effort to strengthen the overall ministry of the church by providing a more intimate setting in which relationships can develop and thrive.  They offer fellow believers an opportunity to live out their faith and show the love of Christ to one another in practical, everyday ways.

Small groups at Covenant focus on four key goals:

  1. Connection through personal fellowship with one another - It can be easy to get lost in the crowd at church and live isolated lives.  Small groups provide meaningful ways for people to get to know one another deeply and share the joys and challenges we all face.  They allow those who are new to the church to get connected, and those who have been at the church for a while to stay connected.  They are places where everyone can feel welcome and that they belong.
  2. Ministry to each other and those in need - Once connections have been made, biblical ministry can flourish.  While small groups enjoy a wonderful social element, they go far beyond the social to intentionally finding and serving others in need.  Small groups provide a ‘mini-community’ in which Christ ministers to people through those who have been ministered to by Him.
  3. Growth in godliness and Christian maturity - One of the apostle Paul’s key goals in ministry was to “present everyone complete in Christ” (Colossians 1:28).  He understood that the true Christian life is one in which believers increasingly think and act biblically.  Through Bible study, prayer, meaningful discussion and other opportunities small groups help individual believers, and thus the body as a whole, grow in Christ-likeness.
  4. Accountability to others who know and love us - Growth in Christ-likeness does not always come easily or consistently.  We need one another to both encourage and challenge us in our walk with the Lord.  Proverbs reminds us, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another” (27:17).  As we get to know others at a deeper level in a small group setting, we can begin to more easily fulfill the ‘one-another’ aspects of the Christian life, not only caring for one another (I Cor. 12:25), but also those deeper elements of spiritual community including bearing with one another (Eph. 4:2), admonishing one another (Rom. 15:14), and loving one another (Jn. 13:34) in sacrificial ways.

Small groups typically meet in the homes of church members at various times, days and frequencies.  Each group varies slightly as to its particular focus, but there is a place for everyone and we invite you to consider joining a group in your area.  For more information, please contact the church office.
