Rev. John RohrmanMay 28, 2023Passage: 2 Chronicles 36:22-23
The book of 2 Chronicles ends with an exhortation for God’s people to “go up,” which, in its original context (Ezra 1:1-3), referred to returning to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple. But by the time 2 Chronicles was written, the temple was already rebuilt. So what did it mean for the original readers of this book to “go up?” And what relevance does this exhortation have for us today? To answer these questions, we will need to look backward at the major themes of the book, but even more so, look forward to how those themes and the call to “go up” are fulfilled in Christ.
