The vengeance of the LORD can be a confusing or uncomfortable topic. But as we will see in Nahum 1, it is consistent with other expressions of his character, and, apart from it, we will not be able to truly appreciate his mercy and comfort. Ultimately, the only reason there is good news of peace for us is that God has provided us a refuge in his Son, Jesus Christ, who has suffered his Father’s vengeance in our place.
