The story of King Uzziah can be summarized by James 4:6 (and 1 Peter 5:5). In his early years, Uzziah humbly feared and sought the Lord, and God graciously gave him strength and fame. But in his prosperity, Uzziah grew proud and was opposed by the Lord, who struck him with a humiliating disease. Likewise for us, in the midst of blessing there is great temptation for us to exalt ourselves. But because Jesus was stricken far more severely than Uzziah was, we have the assurance of God’s grace when we humble ourselves before him.
