The holidays are a great time to help people in need, but cherished groups like widows need support from the Church all year round. In 1 Timothy 5, Paul provides a framework to help ensure that widows are both supported according to their need and encouraged to serve according to their ability. Caring for them and similar groups is “pure and undefiled” religion in the sight of God (James 1:27), reflecting the selfless service that Jesus supremely displayed on the cross.
